5 Important Blogging Mistakes Every Beginner Makes (And How To Avoid Them)

While creating a blog may seem simple on the surface, creating a successful blog is more difficult. Many people are under the impression that simply building a blog and posting content regularly is enough to build an audience. However, many new bloggers make important mistakes that can be easily avoided. Before you create a blog, here are five important blogging mistakes many beginners make and how to avoid them on your own.

1. Not knowing their goal

One of the most common blogging mistakes bloggers make is assuming that if they write, the audience will come, and they can write anything and generate ideas and revenue. It hurts you in many ways.
  •  First, if you do not have a goal for the blog, it risks becoming an online diary and loses interest to almost anyone except your immediate mobile circle.
  • Second, even if you do not have a defined goal, an ambiguously focused blog will suffer periodic posts that reduce its focus.

Know why you are blogging. Are you writing about a technical area that you are well aware of to promote your consultation? Then you have to write specifically about the technical subject and should not throw in posts about your personal life or politics.

Are you blogging for the newsletter in hopes of turning website visitors into buyers or signups? Then all your content on the blog needs to include a call to action to sign up for the newsletter or refer to the content they can buy, as well as references that the content is available online for free. Better than samples.

Are you writing about being a mother and hoping to make money by doing so? Then keep the discussion focused on children and parenting.

2. Don't know their niche

It is a mistake to write about many topics in an attempt to appeal to as many audiences as possible that many new bloggers create. There are literally a million other outlets competing big and small with your blog for an audience. You not only need to know your goal but your niche before creating a blog. You need to choose a niche that you can write about quantity and depth but do not repeat what everyone else is saying.

If you are a blogging parent, do you have the expertise to raise manifolds or a child with a specific disability? You will stand out from the one million other mothers who tell the usual funny stories of what their children did today.
If you are blogging about food, find a niche like a type of ethnic cooking or cooking for someone with specific dietary restrictions. You will catch an audience eager to read about good food, which can really be enjoyed.

Why do you need to know your niche before you start blogging?

The focus of your blog will determine how search engines categorize it and it will start attracting viewers. It is easy to select a unique niche that suits your long-term goals from the start. To write a general, unfocused blog and try to bring it to mind later. And when you know the focus of the blog, it becomes easy to create a title and content rich with key search terms that viewers will be using to find you blog.

3. Their audience doesn't know

One common mistake bloggers make is writing for themselves and not for their audience. Understand who is reading your blog and write content for that audience.

  • Mummy blog readers want to know how to simplify their lives, have better children and save money in the process.
  • Someone seeking technical advice needs content that answers their questions, although it may be said in the blog that for more complex issues or their particular situation, the reader should consult an expert.
  • Understand the problems they face so that you can write about the solutions they care about and will read about. You need to understand your audience so that you do not make the post too complicated or too simple.
Understanding your audience helps you choose a topic for the blog that they find relevant and interesting, as well.

For example, a mummy blogger might review baby products or minivans, while wine glasses or gag gifts would be flattered. Financial advice blogs can review insurance products, recommend credit cards or financial books. A financial guru recommending personal care products will quickly lose its audience.

Conversely, you should not write your blog to take out the frustrations of the moment. If the content is not important to the audience, they will stop reading it after several posts like this. The only exception would be parenting frustrations that some.

Six can be spun into entertaining, such as messed up children or crafts they try to make.

4. Not compatible

An estimated 95% of all blogs are abandoned. Most bloggers start a blog and then petitions out. One of the most important things you do after starting a blog is to continue. It is more important to post content on a regular basis, such as on a weekly basis, rather than putting large amounts of posts in the beginning.

What do you do if you are running out of ideas
Look at the topics you've already covered and are ready for updates, such as when you reviewed version 2.0 of a product and version 3.0 just came out. If you still need assistance, consider guest bloggers who write on similar topics that you do or provide complimentary content. Or read through the comments posted by your readers and expand on them in a new blog entry.

Your blog must also be of high quality to rank well with search engines; Grammar and spelling mistakes will repeat you as phrases and filler words will be repeated.

It is better to put up one good blog post per week than three cheap. So when you need to maintain a publishing schedule, it is better to post fewer, better articles than more quality content. Remember that search engines grade your blog based on the quality of the content, so a quick draft of the content posted on the site hurts your blog's ranking.

5. Don't know how to monetize a blog

  • Many bloggers start writing in hopes of making money from the effort. They often make mistakes when they try to monetize the blog. Before you review the product in exchange for a salary, understand the FTC rules to disclose that fact.
  • Know that the blogging platform you use treats Amazon affiliate links before putting too many links on the blog and gets hit with a spam penalty.
  • Think about what your audience will find valuable before asking you to join their latest affiliate sales program.
  • If you are using a blog to promote your writing, include links where they can buy your book or sign up for a subscription newspaper.
  • If you plan to run Google ads on your blog, know which topics the blog cannot address without having to demarket.
  • Understand how to connect a blog to your business if the blog is used to promote the business. For example, an appliance repair blog should discuss maintenance and repair it yourself for the average homeowner, as well as clarifying the context to call in your business such as a pro.

In closing

  • Before starting a blog, know your reason for blogging and your unique niche.
  • Understand your audience and create quality content that will interest them.
  • A blog is not the right place to address your personal complaints or to maintain a diary.
  • Understand the rules before attempting to monetize your blog, and figure out the right way to promote a product or service if that is the purpose of your blog.
